SUPENSION PROBLEMS

Correcting any handling problem on a motorcycle is a complex matter, depending on the cause. In the first instance, the mechanic must analyze the problem to determine if it is being caused by one of three things:1) A worn component2) A broken or damaged component3) An adjustable component out of specification. Remember racers you should be replacing the suspension fluid every three months.  If you have a leaky shock or fork seal, by continuing to ride it can ruin the internal componants costing you several hundred dollars.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS

The electrical system on a motorcycle is like a body's circulatory system. Blood pumps through the body from the heart-- like energy from a motor to the rest of the bike. The heart muscles contract because of signals from the brain-- like the ignition sending impulses to the motor which mix with fuel causing explosions in the engine. Like the body, which can lose power if loses blood, a motorcycle needs its electrical system in sound shape in order for everything else to operate well.

ENGINE REPAIRS

We've all done it: While sitting in traffic, maybe at a red light, you listen.  Is that a whirring sound?  What is that whirring sound?  Where is it coming from?  Is it from my motorcycle?  Is it in the engine?  Please don't let it be in the engine.  Or maybe it's not even my ride.  The side by side in the next lane looks like a real clunker. I bet it's that UTV. Repeat with any sound, any smell, any weird feeling you get while driving. ATV jerking around? They need to pave this road. Engine smells funny? That's because this whole town smells. Check engine light come on? It's probably a loose gas cap. And of course, if you hear something strange, turn up the radio and drown it out.  Because otherwise, these things can give you a panic attack. With every sound, smell, and insistent light on the dashboard, we see days without a ride to get to work and money flying out of our wallets like winged monkeys in little red vests and hats.  Here are a few of the scariest signs of engine trouble, the likely causes.   And yes, they almost all require immediate attention -- but there's no need to panic.   Unless you actually see those flying monkeys.   They're creepy.

CLUTCH REPAIRS

A typical motorcycle clutch is composed of a series of friction-generating plates that are used to engage and disengage the engine flywheel from the transmission. A clutch slip occurs when the friction plates cannot engage completely, allowing the flywheel to spin at a different rate than the friction plates. Clutch slippage is usually a result of improper adjustments or caused by wear.

05

BRAKE REPAIRS

Any brake component suspected of faulty operation needs to be inspected immediately. The front disc brake pads on newer vehicles have their own peculiar warning signs, and being able to read them early enough can reduce repair costs down the road. The front disc brake pads provide most of the stopping power for the vehicle and can actually wear out faster than the rear brakes. Disc brakes can show some early warning signs of failure if the vehicle owner knows what to look for.

MECHANICAL PROBLEMS

Mechanical problems with a powersport can happen for many reasons. Taking the powersport to a professional mechanic is ideal because they are the ones qualified to repair the problem. When purchasing a motorcycle, atv or side by side, it is important that the potential buyer look at any possible mechanical problems that the ride has had in the past. It is important not to buy a vehicle that has had major mechanical problems. The engine, heater,  and transmission are all important areas to look at.
